Welcome to Gaia's Nest

We provide holistic, organic Early Childhood Education and Care.

Set in a native bush environment and guided by the philosophical approaches of Rudolf Steiner, Reggio Emilia,  Maria Montessori, Emmi Pikler, RIE; Magda Gerber's Resources for Infant Educarers approach and the principles and practices of Australia's Early Years Learning Framework. Children spend their days engaging in nature together with educators who hold the highest image of them as capable and competent individuals.

About Us

Gaia’s Nest, founded in 2004, is an early years education and care service nestled amongst the native bushland of Mornington, Hobart. Inspired by a deep respect for childhood, nature and the rhythm of life, we provide a nurturing environment where children are given the time, space and freedom to explore, imagine and grow.

Our natural bush setting is an integral part of our learning environment, inviting children to form meaningful connections with the earth, the seasons and the world around them. Through uninterrupted play, creative experiences, storytelling, practical activities and time spent outdoors, children develop confidence, curiosity, resilience and a strong sense of belonging.

At Gaia’s Nest, we honour each child as a unique individual with their own strengths, interests and developmental journey. Our educators thoughtfully create warm, predictable and inspiring environments that support children’s wellbeing, creativity and natural desire to learn. We value the importance of nurturing the whole child - supporting their physical, emotional, social and cognitive development through meaningful experiences and trusting relationships.

Alongside our education and care service, Gaia’s Nest provides professional development, mentoring and support to the early childhood sector across Tasmania. We share our knowledge and experience to encourage reflective practice, connection and a deeper understanding of children’s learning and development.

We recognise families as children’s first and most influential teachers and believe strong relationships are the foundation of meaningful education. By working in partnership with families, educators and community, we create a place where children feel safe, respected and deeply connected - allowing them to flourish during these precious early years.

In our thoughts, and in our hearts, we believe our connection to country is present through our daily rhythms and practices. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we learn from, and recognise that our connection is a journey. We want to welcome you to who we are in this moment as a collective community. Your presence here will become part of our history, as we share and celebrate our story and our connection to the land we’re blessed to learn from today.

Always was and always will be, Lutruwita.
